Al Waterhouse is President and CEO of AcuFocus. He also serves on the company’s Board of Directors. Since assuming this role in 2016, Al has been the driving force behind the restructuring of the company to reflect its current focus on the intraocular lens (IOL) marketplace.
He has successfully led the company through fundraising, transacting the company’s former flagship product, the KAMRA® corneal inlay, enhancing the manufacturing process including the development of associated patents and refining the companies positioning and focus. As a result of his visionary leadership, AcuFocus is now poised to address unmet needs globally with its breakthrough small aperture platform technology of which the IC-8® lens is the first product.
Prior to joining AcuFocus in 2015 as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Al held numerous executive leadership positions for over 26 years in the healthcare and medical device industries. He has been instrumental in facilitating over a dozen mergers and acquisitions, raising significant venture capital and leading teams that have created over $4.5B in market value. Prior to joining AcuFocus, he served as divisional Vice President of Global Operations at Abbott Medical Optics, President and CEO of Asteres Corp, and President of PCI Services (Cardinal Health Company). Drawn to the vision care industry for its complexity and diversity of technology, Al remains in the ophthalmology arena because of the positive impact technology such as small aperture optics is having on patient’s lives.
